House of Diamonds carries a large inventory of certified diamonds, which includes EGL (European Gemological Laboratory), IGL (International Gemological Laboratories) and GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certified diamonds.
Laboratories serve as a third party grading company, with an objective opinion. They all follow the same guidelines with slight variations in their standards. There are many laboratories that provide diamond grading reports, and EGL, IGL and GIA stand as the largest laboratories worldwide.
The European Gemological Laboratory, or EGL, was founded in Belgium more than 30 years ago. EGL is committed to protecting the integrity of the jewelry trade and promoting public interest through applied science, innovation, education, and exceptional service. The laboratory is credited with introducing new approaches to diamond grading and conducting advanced research with physicists, geologists, and mineralogists.
The International Gemological Laboratories (IGL) Diamond Certificate provides a reliable and accurate documentation of a diamond’s identity and grade based on the internationally recognized diamond grading system. Using state-of-the-art equipment, each diamond is analyzed by several gemologists in order to provide the most accurate description of the diamond’s quality and characteristics. The carat, color, clarity and cut – commonly known as the 4 C’s of each diamond are clearly stated on each certificate. Additional grading characteristics such as the finish, girdle, culet and fluorescence are also detailed on the certificate. A diagram of the diamond displaying any inclusions is also included on the certificate.
Founded in 1931, the Gemological Institute of America, or GIA, is an independent, non-profit organization considered by many to be the world’s foremost authority in gemology. Introduced in 1953, their diamond and gemstone grading system is recognized worldwide. Manufacturers from around the world send diamonds and gems to GIA for examination and analysis.
When a diamond is accompanied by a GIA certificate, the consumer is assured that the stone has been analyzed by an unbiased gemologist who upholds the highest standards of integrity, science, and professionalism.
It is theresponsibility of a reputable and knowledgeable diamond company to identify the most brilliant, desirable diamonds and to price them appropriately regardless of whether the laboratory certificate is EGL, GIA or any other laboratory.
